In 1985, Vincenzo Mancuso separates from the group, having undertaken a challenging collaboration (as a musician and later as a producer) with Francesco De Gregori, and allows entry to young (twenty-seven at the time) Valerio Veronese, a talented and well-trained guitarist , still in formation.

In 1990, the Chameleons return to be 5 to the input of keyboardist Massimo Brunetti. In 1993 he returned to the Sanremo Festival singing (along with the Dik Dik and Maurizio Vandelli) the nostalgic song How to pass the time, even if it is deleted, was extremely successful.
