The Old Merry Tale Jazz Band (OMTJ) was a Hamburg Dixieland band, which was founded in 1956.

Her greatest success was in the early 1960s with songs like On Sunday my sweetie wants to sail with me ; A hit from the film of the same name, filmed in 1961 with Vivi Bach , Karin Dor and Harald Juhnke . He climbed up to fourth place in 1961 and was among the Top 10 for 13 weeks. In a continuation film So loves and kisses in Tyrol from the same year the band was also seen with their song Celery in the film. Hello Little Miss and On the Lüneburger Heide were other successful songs of the band.

The group received a contract from Deutsche Grammophon in 1960, and the band members played for two years at the time. One of the founding members was the trumpeter Gerhard Vohwinkel, who also worked as an arranger and composer for the band. In 1957, trombonist Jost "Addi" joined Münster, who became director of the band in 1958. His long-standing members were Jost 'Addi' Münster (since 1957 Trombone), Reinhard Zaum (since 1959 bass, tuba, vocals), Peter Lange (until 1959 trumpet), Joachim Nolte (trumpet), Gerhard Vohwinkel (1959-1960 Trumpet), Dieter Bergmann (since 1961 trumpet, vocals), Jochen Nolte (1961 trumpet), Eberhard Bendzko (since 1981 trumpet), Jochen Rose (since 1986 trumpet), Peter Schubert (1960-1963 clarinet), Gerd Lorenz (1966/67 clarinet)

The OMTJ played until 1984. She regularly appeared on the first Friday of the month in the " Fabrik (Hamburg) ". Up to this time a total of 14 singles, 24 LPs and 3 EPs were produced. Since 1985, the "Traditional Old Merry Tale Jazz Band" and the "Addi Münsters Old Merrytale Jazz Band" have been successors. In 2006, a double CD of the Old Merry Tale Jazzband was released with recordings from 1960 to 1980 (with guests like Knut Kiesewetter , Fatty George , Monty Sunshine , Bob Wilber , Dick Cary , Charly Antolini , Hellewiese, Elke Hendersen, Rudi Bohn Choir, Willem , Roy Williams , Audrey Motaung ).
