The Dave Clark Five (also known as "the DC5") was an English pop rock group. Their single "Glad All Over" knocked the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" off the top of the UK Singles Chart in January 1964; it peaked at number 6 in the United States in April 1964.[1] "Over And Over" was a number 1 single in the United States for the group in December 1965.

They were the second group of the British Invasion on The Ed Sullivan Show, appearing in March for two weeks after the Beatles appeared three straight weeks in February 1964. For some time the Dave Clark Five was more popular in the US than in their native UK, but had a renaissance in the UK between 1967 and 1970. The group disbanded in late 1970. On 10 March 2008, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[2]

The song is written by Dave Clark. The song is notable for its use of echo and reverb made by an Echoplex. The song has been performed on many variety shows like The Ed Sullivan Show, Shindig!, etc. Since the song used so many production techniques like echo, reverb, and compression, the song had to be lip-synched on television performances. In the United Kingdom, the b-side to "Any Way You Want It" was "Because".

"Catch Us If You Can" is a 1965 song from The Dave Clark Five (DC5), written by group's drummer Dave Clark and guitarist Lenny Davidson. The song was one of DC5's top hits, reaching number 5 on the UK Singles Chart in the late summer of 1965 and number 4 on the U.S. pop singles chart,[1] later that fall.

Starting with guitar and finger snapping accompaniment, the hook was instantaneous:

As such, it served as the title song to John Boorman's well-regarded DC5 vehicle and pop scene film Catch Us If You Can (retitled Having a Wild Weekend in the U.S.) of the same year. The title phrase was seemingly a take-off on the 1959 crime film Catch Me If You Can and similar phrases, with "me" turned to the group's "us".

In years since, "Catch Us If You Can" is played near the start of Shrewsbury Town F.C. matches as the footballers run onto the pitch. This has been happening on and off since the 1974-1975 season and "Catch" is thus seen by home fans as Shrewsbury's de facto theme tune. Such was its significance to Shrewsbury Town that a local band, Hello Cleveland, and Shrewsbury fans released a cover version of the song, with a percentage of the proceeds going to children's charity Hope House.[2] The song was made available for purchase on Amazon and on the club's official shop webpage.

In the U.S., "Catch" remains one of the DC5's most played tunes on oldies radio stations. In Australia, the Candid Camera-style television show Catch Us If You Can was named after the song.

Author Emlyn Williams used this song's lyric as an epigraph in Beyond Belief, his book about the serial killers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. "Catch Us If You Can" was a hit song on British radio during part of the time the Moors murders were being committed.

The song was also used in a Walkers advert in 1995 around May (when the song was thirty years old) for their now discontinued (but new at the time) crinkle-cut range (featuring three flavours: Cream Cheese & Chive, Cheese & Ham and Roast Beef & Mustard); the song seemed appropriate as it was saying "catch us crinkle cut crisps if you can". (The off-screen voice-over, as for all Walkers crisps commercials then, was Hugh Laurie.)

The song was also featured in the opening sequence of the ESPN broadcast of the 1989 Winston 500 NASCAR race held at Talladega Superspeedway.[3]

"Catch Us If You Can" was also used for video clips of baseball highlights on The George Michael Sports Machine.

"Glad All Over" is a song written by Dave Clark and Mike Smith and recorded by The Dave Clark Five. In January 1964, it became the British group's first big hit, reaching No.1 on the UK Singles Chart. In April 1964, it reached No.6 on the American U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the first British Invasion hit by a group other than The Beatles.

It was also No.1 in Ireland, No.3 in Australia and No.2 in Canada. It reached No.4 in the Netherlands and No.16 in Germany. "Glad All Over" was the No.2 selling single of 1964 in the U.K. (behind "Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles), and also had sufficient UK sales in November and December 1963 to make it the 58th best-selling single of 1963; put together these statistics suggest U.K. sales for "Glad All Over" of around 1,000,000 units by the end of 1964.

"Glad All Over" featured Smith leading unison group vocals, often in call and response style, a saxophone line used not for solo decoration but underneath the whole song, and a big, "air hammer" beat that underpinned the wall of sound production known as the "Tottenham Sound".

In 1993, "Glad All Over" was reissued as a single in the UK, coupled with "Good Old Rock 'n 'Roll" and "Having a Wild Weekend". The reissue reached No.37 on the UK singles chart.
