Margriet Eshuijs ( Zaandam , October 14, 1952 ) is a Dutch pop singer. She received the music from her parents who were both musicians and owner of a music store and music school.

At the age of three she made herself playing on the accordion . From the age of nine she played in bands (The Marileens, Equipe Z.) on the electric guitar ; later she also played electronic organ and, if necessary, she became a singer.

In 1972 the pop group Lucifer was founded; producer Hans Vermeulen was one of the driving forces. The group broke through in 1974 with the years later still well-known hit House for sale (still to be found each year in the hit list Top 2000 ). This started the professional career of Eshuijs as a pop singer. In 1975 the first LP, 'As We Are' was released. This achieved the status of gold . The second, 'Margriet' (1977) was less well received and in 1979 Lucifer was dissolved.

In 1977 she was also part of the studio group Veronica Unlimited for a short time, brought together by Hans van Hemert on the occasion of the 12.5-year anniversary of the Veronica Top 40 .

Eshuijs went solo with the album 'On The Move Again' produced by the American Tom Salesbury (1980). Following this album Margriet received an Edison , the Pall Mall Export Award and she was invited to the Knokke Festival and won the Personality Award. Then she made the album 'Right On Time' with the Margriet Eshuijs Band (1981) with the hit "Black Pearl". This too can be heard annually in the Top 2000. The single and the album both received an Edison. The album 'Eye To Eye' was released in 1982. Eshuijs played six years in the club circuit and at many festivals in the Netherlands, including at Parkpop in The Hague. She stopped in 1986 with performances with a fixed band and from then on she started to perform solo performances.conservatory and played in the Nijmegen band 'The Dream' by Maarten Peters singer / songwriter , known for "White Horses In The Snow". Eshuijs started to sing Peter's songs and he started composing specially for her. This resulted in the cd 'Sometimes' (1991).

In the late eighties, Eshuijs started bringing pop music to the theater. The collaboration between her and Maarten Peters became increasingly intensive. Peters started to write more and more music for her, play along in the band and also produce the theater tours. After the CDs 'The Wee Small Hours' (1993) and 'Shadow Dancing' (1996) they founded their own record company . Eshuijs celebrated her 25th anniversary as a professional pop singer with the live CD 'Step Into The Light' (1999). In 2001 the cd 'Time' came out; this is completely filled with compositions by Maarten Peters.

On March 29, 2005 the first live music DVD 'In Concert' by Margriet Eshuijs was released with recordings of the concert on 17 March 2004 in the Zaantheater in Zaandam. In August 2006, Eshuijs and her band gave two special open air concerts, in which Shocking Blue singer Mariska Veres was invited as a special guest. It would be, as it turned out, her last performances for the public: Mariska died in December 2006. In October 2006 the CD 'In Concert' was released with 16 songs from the aforementioned concert.

Eshuijs and the band give dozens of concerts a year, alternately an unplugged (semi-acoustic) tour in the smaller venues and a tour with extensive staffing and light show in the larger theaters. The band consists of Maarten Peters (vocals, acoustic and electric guitars), Co Vergouwen (grand piano, keyboards, hammond organ , backing vocals), David de Marez Oyens (bass guitars, percussion, backing vocals) and Mark Eshuis (drums, percussion).

During her career, Margriet received various prizes for her work, including Edisons ('On The Move Again', 'Black Pearl' and 'Right On Time') and a Golden Harp ('Sometimes'). In 1999 she was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau .

House for sale is a 1975 song by Lucifer , with lead singer Margriet Eshuijs and with Henny Huisman as drummer in the ranks.

The song was written by Gloria Sklerov and Harry Lloyd , two songwriters who were employed by Garrett Music. During a visit by Peter Schoonhoven from EMI to Snuff Garrett in 1973, he was introduced to several collaborators, including Sklerov who foretold him this song on the piano. Schoonhoven loved it and later handed the demo to producer Hans Vermeulen in the Netherlands as a suggestion for Lucifer's new album.

House for sale ended up as A-side on the first single by Lucifer, with the song My dream world written by Eshuijs on the B-side . The single was named Veronica by Alarms and reached number 4 in both the Top 40 and the National Hit Parade . Also the song appeared the same year on the album As we are .
