Gerrit Frans van Schaik (also sometimes written as van Schaick ) ( Amsterdam , 8 December 1907 - Amsterdam, 4 January 1990 ) was a Dutch singer .

He was the original manager of a factory in pattern patterns. In the thirties he started a singing career under the stage name Ted Jenkins . Initially he sang mainly French chansons and cowboy songs.

In 1940 he performed the vocals in the musical radio play Woman on board of Anton Beuving and Jan Vogel . One of the songs in it was Ketelbinkie , which would be his greatest success. Three years later he put it on the record for the first time, on the organ accompanied by Cor Steyn .

Because of the success of Ketelbinkie, Van Schaik concentrated mainly on sailors' songs. His stage name was the singing tramp . Other popular songs from him were The Wanderer's Song (1946), Give me a ship (1947), And always there are ships (1948) and Droomland (1950).

He was also shown twice in a Dutch film : in 1949 in A kingdom for a house and in 1955 in Ciske the rat . He also regularly performed in revues and operettas . But it is the song about the street boy from Rotterdam, as a result of which the Amsterdam-based Van Schaik still lives on.
