Jennifer Lynn Lopez  (born July 24, 1969), also known as JLo, is an American singer, actress, dancer, fashion designer, author, and producer. Lopez gained her first high-profile job as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color in 1991, where she remained a regular until she decided to pursue an acting career in 1993.

She received her first leading role in the Selena biopic of the same name in 1997, a portrayal that earned her a Golden Globe nomination and became the first Latina actress to earn over US$1 million for a film. For her role in Out of Sight she earned over US$2 million. She ventured into the music industry in 1999 with her debut studio album On the 6, preceded by the number-one single "If You Had My Love".


With the simultaneous release of her second studio album J.Lo and her film The Wedding Planner in 2001, Lopez became the first woman to have a number one album and film in the same week. Her 2002 remix album, J to tha L–O! The Remixes, became the first in history to debut at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200. Following her second divorce, Lopez had a high-profile relationship with Ben Affleck, which strongly influenced her third studio album, This Is Me... Then (2002), while also overshadowing the release of Gigli (2003), a critical and commercial failure. She subsequently married longtime friend Marc Anthony, and rebounded with the box office successes Shall We Dance? (2004) and Monster-in-Law (2005).

Her fifth studio album, Como Ama una Mujer (2007), received the highest first-week sales for a debut Spanish album in the United States. Lopez gave birth to twins in 2008, and after a relatively unsuccessful period, returned to prominence in 2011 with her appearance as a judge on American Idol and most commercially successful single to date, "On the Floor", which is one of the best-selling singles of all time. In 2016, she began starring as Harlee Santos in the crime drama series Shades of Blue.

With a cumulative film gross of over US$2.89 billion and global record sales exceeding 80 million, she is regarded as the most influential Hispanic performer in the United States, as well as its highest paid Latin entertainer. Time listed her as one of the 25 most influential Hispanic Americans, and in 2012, Forbes ranked her as the most powerful celebrity in the world, as well as the 38th most powerful woman in the world.

For her contributions to the arts, Lopez has received a landmark star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Billboard Icon Award, among other honors. Beyond entertainment, she enjoys a successful business career consisting of various clothing lines, accessories, fragrances, a production company, and a charitable foundation, among other ventures.

Waiting for Tonight" is a song written by Maria Christensen, Michael Garvin, and Phil Temple. It was originally written and recorded for American girl group 3rd Party's debut studio album, Alive (1997). Two years after the group disbanded, American singer Jennifer Lopez recorded her own version of the song for her debut studio album, On the 6 (1999).

Ric Wake and Richie Jones provided production for Lopez's dance-pop version of "Waiting for Tonight", which differs from the German-sounding Europop version that was recorded by 3rd Party. A Spanish version of the song, entitled "Una Noche Más", was adapted by Manny Benito and also recorded for the album. "Waiting for Tonight" was released on November 1, 1999, by the Work Group, as the third single from On the 6.

"Waiting for Tonight" is considered by various publications, such as Entertainment Weekly and the Chicago Tribune, to be the best song of Lopez's career. Contemporary music critics have also credited the song with making her a leading artist in the dance-pop movement. It was used frequently as a celebratory anthem in anticipation for the dawn of the new millennium.

The single was a commercial success, reaching the top ten in Australia, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. "Waiting for Tonight" became Lopez's first song to top the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The song earned her a nomination for Best Dance Recording at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2000.
The accompanying music video for "Waiting for Tonight" was directed by Francis Lawrence and depicts a Y2K dance party.

The video was widely popular, receiving heavy rotation on MTV, and its emphasis on Lopez's body led to increased media attention surrounding the entertainer. It was nominated for numerous awards, including two at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, where it received the MTV Video Music Award for Best Dance Video. The video has influenced subsequent music videos by Adam Lambert, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, FKA twigs, and Selena Gomez.

Lopez has performed "Waiting for Tonight" on various television programs, such as Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, at various award ceremonies, such as the 11th Billboard Music Awards, and in two of her concert tours, with the most recent being the Dance Again World Tour.

Let's Get Loud" is a song recorded by American entertainer Jennifer Lopez for her debut studio album On the 6 (1999). Originally written by the song's co-writer Gloria Estefan for herself, she felt as if the song was too similar to her previous material and passed it onto Lopez.

Estefan, who co-wrote the song alongside Kike Santander, stated that she would have "more fun with it" and would put "a new spin" on it. "Let's Get Loud" is often regarded as Lopez's signature song.  Estefan eventually released her own version of the song in 2011 as a bonus track on the deluxe Target edition of her album Miss Little Havana.

Since its release, "Let's Get Loud" charted on several charts around the world, reaching the top ten on five European countries. Despite not being released in the United States, it also charted on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs. "Let's Get Loud" received positive critical response and at the 43rd Grammy Awards in 2001, Lopez earned her second consecutive nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording with the song. An accompanying music video was directed by Jeffrey Doe and filmed live at the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup.

On the Floor" is a song recorded by American singer Jennifer Lopez for her seventh studio album, Love? (2011). Featuring American rapper Pitbull, it was released by Island Records on February 8, 2011 as the lead single from the album. "On the Floor" was written by Kinda "Kee" Hamid, AJ Junior, Teddy Sky, Bilal "The Chef" Hajji, Pitbull, Gonzalo Hermosa, Ulises Hermosa, along with the song's producer RedOne.

It is an up-tempo electro-house dance song with a common time tempo of 130 beats per minute. "On the Floor" incorporates elements of electro house and draws further musical influences from eurodance, Latin music and techno music. Lopez recorded a Spanish-language version of the song titled "Ven a Bailar" (English: "Come to Dance"), which includes additional lyrical contributions from Julio Reyes Copello and Jimena Romero.

Its development was motivated by Lopez's Latin heritage and pays homage to her career-beginnings as a dancer. Interpolated within the song are recurrent elements of the 1982 Bolivian composition "Llorando se fue" written by Gonzalo and Ulises Hermosa, a composition that gained notoriety when it was sampled by Kaoma in their 1989 single "Lambada".

Lopez described "On the Floor" as an evolution of her classic sound and as something which sounded very current. The debut and release of "On the Floor" coincided with Lopez's appointment as a judge on the tenth season of US reality TV show American Idol, as well as several other product endorsement deals. American Idol also provided a platform to debut the single's music video, as well as the stage for Lopez's first live performance of the song.

"On the Floor" was met with a generally positive reception from music critics, with editors from BBC Music and Los Angeles Times drawing comparisons to Lopez's debut single, "If You Had My Love" (1999) and follow-up single "Waiting for Tonight" (1999). Commercially, "On the Floor" is Lopez's most successful single to date, topping more than thirty national single charts. In the United States, it was Lopez's first single in four years to garner airplay, and to date has sold over four million copies, earning a triple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the USA.

It resulted in being the eleventh-biggest hit of the year on the year-end charts; "On the Floor" finished in first in Austria, Finland, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and other countries.
A music video was directed by TAJ Stansberry and choreographed by Frank Gatson, Jr, with fans being given the chance to vote for their preferred ending for the video. The completed clip premiered simultaneously on Vevo and during the March 3, 2011 episode of American Idol.

It depicts a Los Angeles underground club culture where Lopez portrays a "queen of the nightclub", among other characters. The video received critical acclaim for its lavish production, the styling and choreography, that critics felt best highlighted Lopez's abilities as a dancer. As of May 2017, the video has received over 1.0 billion views. To date, it has sold 11 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.
