As a 15-year-old, the native Swabian from Banat sang in a band with which she performed at dance events on weekends. She completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and became chief secretary.

In 1991 a founding member of the Flippers , Claus Backhaus, became aware of Kayser because of her special voice. He heard her sing at an event and invited her to his studio for an audition. In 1995 she turned her hobby into a profession. Backhaus was its producer, composer, lyricist and manager until 2003. In 2005 she met the composer and producer Wolfgang Herrmann , from whom she interpreted over 50 titles by 2019. In 2006 Mara Kayser published her first, completely self-written album Angekommen. With this album she took the step to becoming a demanding German hit. In addition to music, Mara Kayser also devotes herself to painting.

Since March 2021, Kayser has been moderating the weekly program "Treffpunkt mit Mara Kayser" (Tuesdays between 8 and 10 p.m.) in the music program Radio Schlagerparadies , in which she holds talks with studio guests from the world of hits.
